ACHIEVEMENT GAP

ERIC CROSS, M.Ed.

The “achievement gap” is commonly defined as a difference between test scores of minority and low income students and the test scores of their White and Asian peers.

However, this term can also includes other groups such as English language learners, students with disabilities, and GLBT students.

The “gap” is the disparity in performance between these groups as measured by standardized tests, college enrollment/completion, and enrollment in advanced academic coursework.

  • History of racism and oppression in America
  • Jim Crow laws - Seperate but equal
  • Brown v. Board of Education
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964
  • Disproportionate resources
