How much influence do ghettos have on Jews' health and behavior?

  • Closed ghettos
  • Destruction ghettos

Open ghettos

  • No walls or fences
  • restrictions on where you can go
  • some lasted a few days, others months

Closed ghettos

  • Enclosed by some type of wall or fence
  • Wall/Fence covered in barbed wire
  • Very unsanitary conditions
  • Many diseases broke out

Warsaw ghetto

  • Created October 12, 1940.
  • enclosed by a wall that was over 10 feet high, topped with barbed wire
  • Over 400,000 Jews
  • Largest ghetto created
  • 1.3 square miles, with an average of 7.2 persons per room.

Destruction ghettos

  • Very little space
  • Only allowed to take what they can carry
  • Led to stealing
