Why the Shema is/Was Important

The Hebrews believed and believe that these words are an answer to a great questions in life; how should I live my life? What should I do with it?

Moral Relativism

Whatever people believe is true is true. But there are no absolute truths. It doesn't say there is no morality, but it does say it's what a culture or individual wants it to be, or, whatever people believe is true. Most people just want an excuse for what they do, so they call it normal.

The results of this mindset? There are literally no limits. Terrifying.

Worlds Wisdom

  • Christianity is limiting/foolish
  • Get what you want
  • Get what you need
  • Look out for "Number one."
  • Self is most important

God's Wisdom

  • Centered on Christ
  • Deny yourself (disown)
  • Follow Me
  • God is most important, not me
  • God knows more about what I need than I do

The world says, "If you save your life you lose it."
God says, "Lose your life, for my sake, and you find it."

"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?"

"Love the Lord your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.
Love your neighbor as yourself."

Jesus is saying, wisdom is arranging your life around two principles:
Love God with everything and love each other.

"I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for."
