Cassie, the hero, starts hanging out with the wrong group of people, facing her conflict.

"A few days later the same girl came to class talking about knives and axes she had at home, and she said she wanted to bring them to school so she could show her friends."This is a conversation between her and her friend at school.

In a letter from her best friend Mona,"There were drawings of marijuana leaves, vampires, moons, and stars, she wrote,"My guts are hungry for that weird stuff... I f----ing need to kill myself, we need to murder your parents. School is a f----ing b****, kill me with your parents, then kill yourself so you don't have to go to jail. You will go to jail."

Call to Adventure

As a result of Cassie's bad decision and crowd she was hanging out with, her parents put her into a Christian Private School, enrolled her into Youth Group, and she was cut off with any contact to her best friends.

"If I(Cassie) see or speak to Mona, the sheriff will file a restraining order."

"There was only one thing we(parents) allowed Cassie to participate in, and that was youth group."

"Thankfully the detective and the investigator took the situation as serious as we(parents) did, and supported our desire for a restraining order to bar Mona(Cassie's best friend) from further contact with Cassie.

Refusal of the Call

Cassie and Mona both thought her parent's idea was not logical, and their decision wasn't going to help.

"Cassie, of course, was beside herself with anger. So was Mona, who wrote her a note saying that we(parents) must be some of the dumbest parents in the world if we thought pulling Cassie out of public school was going to make anything any better."

When Cassie meets Jamie, a friend that helps Cassie change her view point.

"One day in spring 1997, about three months after Cassie transferred, she came home and told us that Jamie invited her to a youth retreat."

"Jamie had written a letter begging us to let Cassie go." Cassie had much more respect for Cassie's parents, not encouraging her to murder them such as Mona would.

Crossing the Threshold

Cassie realized she had been hanging out with the wrong group of people, which took place at Estes Park in the Rockies.

"It was singing that for some reason broke down Cassie's walls. It seemed to change her...I thought: just one weekend is not going to change her, though it could help. So she totally broke down, I was pretty shocked."

"Cassie was outside the building crying. She was pouring her heart-I think she was praying-and asking God for forgiveness." The retreat changed her perspective, giving her life to God.

Test, Alliances, & Enemies

Cassie's alliances were her friends from church, especially Jamie, and another friend Cassandra that helped her change her attitude on life.

Cassie's test was her old best friends, such as Mona, trying to bring her back into the "bad side."

"According to Jamie, she still missed her old friends too- at least for a while: Even though she didn't want that kind of life, she still cared for her friends. It would kill her every time her old friends drove by her house and hollered, which they did quite often." Her old friends were testing Cassie to come back to the way things used to be. Cassie then said,"I wish they could find out what I've found, and I want them to change too." Instead of being mad that she was not able to talk to them anymore, she became more mature and wanted them to as well, instead of trying to get revenge.

Cassie's enemies were the school shooters, they took her life, especially when it was in such a good state of mind

Reward

Cassie's reward was not as rewarding as many, but she died a hero, and stuck to what she believed in, her Faith.
