Modern day slavery is a problem that needs to be addressed; information on how, why,and at what scale it exists needs to be known.
How does modern day slavery exist?
Modern day slavery works a bit differently than old slavery. Its victims are bound, not by actual chains, but by the bonds of their own extreme vulnerability. That is caused by addiction, poverty,youth, or unstable immigration status.( the U.K.'s slave shame; Mclareh Leatt )
this shows that the outlawing of slavery has abolished only one type of slavery. slavery today has evolved into something very different that what it was before. its now less known and harder to see.
Why does modern day slavery exist?
Modern day slavery is the only choice for some people. In many rural counties the poor turn to prostitution to provide money for their families. Some however go into prostitution for money to feed their addictions.

Pimps who get women into prostitution, one of the forms of modern day slavery, usually do it with promises of work, or love. There are also more violent cases where women are outright abducted( Nefarious: Merchant of souls )
How large is Modern day Slavery
Modern day slavery is very big. 36 million people around the wold live in some form of modern slavery.( Sfferlen Alexandra, Times ) The amount of money made just in the sex trafficking industry is about 32 billion. ( U.N.O.D.C. )
This is the state of modern day slavery it takes advantage of some, others go to it in desperation, and it is very widespread.
