The first empire was the Babylonian empire(near modern day Baghdad). The Assyria empire, capital was Nineveh(near modern Musil), Jonah was a prophet to Nineveh then later they destroyed the northern kingdom of Israel. Then the 2nd Babylonian empire, they conquered Judah and burn Jerusalem and Solomon's temple. Iraq began to be unimportant because it was ruled by other nations. They were conquered by other nations until the Arabs made Baghdad the capital of their Islamic Empire. Baghdad then became the cultural and scientific center of the world, until the Mongolians and Turks ruined it. After WW1, it was freed by the British army from the Turks. Then the British worked with Iraqis until it became an independent nation on October 1,1939.
Land size: 168,754 square miles; twice the size of Idaho.

The official languages are Arabic and Kurdish.

The writing in the middle means "God is Great", pronounced: "Allah Akbar".
Each color symbolizes something:
Red- The wars and the courage they have to overcome it.
White- A bright future for the country.
Black- Oppression against Islam and the triumph of Islam.
Green- Mentioned a couple of times in the Qu'ran and said to be Mohammad's favorite color.
The official religion Islam. There are a lot of Christian too in northern Iraq, but many have left because of ISIS.
The national bird is the Chukar Partridge.
The saw-scale viper is the most dangerous snake in the world. The viper is known to chase its victims. The camel spider can run up to 10mph and some scorpions can grow up to 8 inches long.
Half the story of Jonah(when he was in the whale) from the Bible and half the stories from the book of Daniel take place in Iraq.
