Language Proficiency Levels--Grades 3-5

Reading

  • Entering: Uses cues for sounding out unfamiliar words
  • Beginning: Uses prior knowledge to make connections
  • Developing: Uses punctuation for fluency and expression
  • Expanding: Self-corrects to improve fluency
  • Bridging: Adjusts pace and expression while reading orally

  • Entering: Labels and differentiates between everyday items
  • Beginning: Uses models to produce phrases
  • Developing: Edits writing based on teacher feedback
  • Expanding: Edits writing based on peer reviews 
  • Bridging: Edits own writing and produces final draft
