TYPE OF COLONY

  • New York=Royal
  • New Jersey= Royal
  • Pennsylvania= Proprietary
  • Delaware= Proprietary

DEFINITIONS

  • Proprietary= any of certain colonies that were
  • granted individual or grup by the British crown.
  • Royal= a colony ruled by officials appointed
  • by and responsible to the reigning soverein
  • of parent state.

PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY

  • Major cities= NYC, Philidelphia
  • Features= mountains, good farm land,
  • rich soil, rivers, lakes, and oceans

POPULATION

  • Settlers came from England.
  • All of the settlers wanted free will.
  • To start new lives because they were poor and
  • wanted money.
  • To practice their beliefs because they were tired of being picked on.

  • Large agricultural
  • Grew mostly oats & grains

  • These four colonies were established between
  • 1626 and 1682 for trade, religious freedom, and profit.
  • There was no single religion to dominate the entire region
  • These colonies were called the bread basket because they were
  • a major farming region
