BACKGROUND

  • Born in 1922 in coventry
  • Father had a huge interest in nazism
  • He lived in a lonely house and developed a stammer
  • Later moved to a middle class house complete with servants quarters

  • Educated by mother and sister until the age of 8
  • He did badly in his certificate exams
  • He went on to study English in Oxford

PERSONAL LIFE

  • Larkin had many lady friends
  • His friend Amis urged him to pursue his sarcastic style
  • His friends formed a club called "The Seven", where they discussed poetry, jazz and alcohol

WORKS

  • He had a quiet, reflective and direct tone in his poetry
  • His most famous works include:

  • "High Windows"
