General Info About Pyramids

  • Pyramids were built to bring pharoahs to have a safe journey through the afterlife.
  • There are about 80 known pyramids in Egypt.
  • The pyramids were built on the West bank of the Nile.
  • This was because it was easier to get the blocks to the pyramids.
  • We know so much about Egypt because of the objects that were in the tombs.

The King'sChamber
The King's Chamber was at the top of the pyramid where the pharaoh's tomb was. The Pharaoh Khufu was worshiped in the Great Pyramid. The King's Chamber in the Great Pyramid had a flat ceiling which was rare in Egypt.

The Gallery
It was a 26 feet high gallery which lead to the King's Chamber. It was almost proved to have a trolly to move the big granite blocks to the top of the Kings chamber. Maybe this was the first invention of the escalator. No one knows.

The Queen'sChamber
The Queen's Chamber is the smaller one of the two chambers. When the pyramid was first discovered, they thought that this was the only room.

MUMMIFICATION

  • It takes 70 days to prepare for a mummy to be buried.
  • All internal organs were removed except the heart.
  • If the heart was removed it would testify the person in the afterlife.
  • An amulet was often placed on the heart to protect them in the afterlife.
  • Salt was poured over the persons body so it could decompose.

Procedures
The mummification process began with the evisceration of the body. First the internal organs were removed except the heart. A amulet was often placed on the persons heart to protects it in it's voyage throughout the netherworld.

Procedures #2
The brain was usually removed. The way this would happen was a person would stick a long slightly hooked tool in through the nose and inside the brain. This tool would be rapidly spun causing the brain to mush up and turn into water. Then the nose would be tipped over and all of the contents of the brain would come pouring out of the nose and into the pot that would carry this persons organs and now his brain.
