SIZE OF THE PLANETS!

The first size comparison is Mercury and Jupiter. Mercury is the smallest around 3,000 miles and Jupiter is the biggest around 89,600 miles, they are 89,300 miles apart. The inner planets are way smaller then the outer planets and because of this the inner planets are all rocky. When all the outer planets are made of gasses.

THE ORDER OF THE PLANETS FROM THE SUN

  • Mercury
  • Venus
  • Earth
  • Mars
  • Jupiter
  • Saturn
  • Uranus
  • Neptune

What are Asteroids ?

  • Asteroids are ragged pieces of rock or boulders made up of irregularly sized chunks of metal rock.
  • Found mostly between Mars and Jupiter.

What are comets?

  • Comets are small chunks of dirt and ice.
  • There orbit paths are shaped like ovals.
  • They come from the Kuiper belt and the Oort cloud.

Differences Between Inner & Outer Planets

  • The rings
  • All the outer planets have rings while the inner don’t
  • That means if you know the order of the planets and if they have rings then you know where the inner planets stop and become outer.

Difference Between Inner & Outer Planets

  • The moons
  • All the inner planets have less moons than outer
  • Inner planets have 0-2 moons
  • Outer planets have 14-67 moons
