Chile is on the east coast of South America.

  • Santiago (capital)
  • Puente Alto , Santiago
  • Viña del Mar , Valparaíso

CHILE'S POPULATION IS 17.62 MILLION

  • The groups that make that up are
  • 95% White and Mestizo (mixed white and Amerindian)
  • 3% Amerindian(living in North and South America before Columbus)
  • 2% other

GEOGRAPHY

  • Chile has volcanic peaks, mountains, hills, and oceans that are surrounding the coast of Chile.
  • There is a wide range of weather conditions including desert, alpine tundra and glacier, subtropical, and Mediterranean
  • There are four seasons in most of the country, but they don't match up with the U.S seasons

THE MOST IMPORTANT RELIGION IS CATHOLIC

  • There are nine million Catholics in Chile
  • There are 5 different archdioceses and 18 dioceses
  • Introduced by priests in the 16 century

OUR LADY OF MT. CARMEL

  • Established in 2007, it replaced Corpus Christi.
  • The Catholic Church's official name for this day is Solemnidad de la Virgen del Carmen.
  • Celebrated on July 16th
  • Businesses close
  • Attend mass, have processions, and dress up

NATIONAL HOLIDAY (FIESTAS PATRIAS)

  • Celebrates the establishment of the first government council (1810)
  • Two day celebration September 18th-19th
  • They go to rodeos, dance, and have cookouts

  • Chile's most popular sport is soccer/football
  • Most successful sport is tennis
  • Chilean rodeo is considered second most popular
  • Their superstar athlete is Marcelo Rios. He was #1 in tennis in the world in 1998

  • In the Summer Olympics Chile has 13 medals total
  • In the Winter Olympics Chile has 0 total medals

  • In the 2014 World Cup they placed 15th
  • Their best standing was in 1962 they came in 3rd place

  • Paila marina, a shellfish soup containing different kinds of cooked fish and seasoned with herbs
  • this is the food that sounds good to me

  • This is the one that sounds gross to me, mostly because the ham is boiled

  • The chamanto, is a poncho that is decorated pictures of animals or plants
  • It is made with silk and wool

  • This is a traditional hat mostly worn by horsemen
  • It is made out of straw

WOMEN'S TRADITIONAL CLOTHING

  • The flower dress
  • Women will wear a flowered dress when dancing the national dance

EASTER ISLAND

  • Easter Island covers roughly 64 square miles in the South Pacific Ocean, and is located some 2,300 miles from Chile’s west coast
  • an array of almost 900 giant stone figures that date back many centuries is what you'll find there

  • It is a small hill in the center of Santiago
  • It is a remnant of a volcano 15 million years old

SAN CRISTOBAL HILL

  • Is in northern Santiago
  • The peak is the second highest point in the city
