  • Founded by the Virginia Company (Jamestown colonists)
  • The English wanted more land so they could become wealthie
  • The English wanted to establish permanent settlement

What kind of people settled in the colony?

  • John Smith, the first leader of Jamestown
  • John Rolfe, a farmer who planted tobacco crop in Virginia
  • Nathaniel Bacon, a farmer who led an attak against the natives

WHAT HISTORIC EVENTS HAPPENED IN THE COLONY

  • Bacon's Rebellion, a group of farmers, led by Nathaniel Bacon, attack the natives who where killing farmers
  • The Great Massacre of 1622

WHY WAS THIS COLONY DIFFERENT FROM OTHER COLONIES

  • They grew and exported tobacco
  • Named after Queen Elizabeth I, "The Virgin Queen"
  • Home of Jamestown, the first permanent English colony
