PRESENTATION OUTLINE
STEP 1 :ASK A TESTABLE QUESTION
- How will bonemeal affect the plant growth?
- How will refrigeration affect how many flowers the daffodil has?
- How does the soil temperature affect how tall the daffodil grows?
Step 2 Hypothesis:
If a daffodil is placed in a refrigerator a month before the date of planting and is given bonemeal, then the daffodil will grow faster, because refrigeration makes the plant think it's winter so when the bulb is planted the temperature is warmer making the plant think it's time to grow and create flowers.
Data analysis
There were four groups to see which one would grow first. The trial took place over a period of seven weeks. There were four different treatments for the daffodil. The refrigerated bulbs grew on first for four weeks. On the first week three refrigerated bulbs grew. On the second week the refrigerated bone meal room temperature bulbs, but none grew on the third week they grew on the fifth, sixth, and seventh weeks. The bone meal bulbs started growing on the third week, then again on the fifth they again grew allot on the six the week they continued to grow on the seventh week.
Data analysis continued...
There were four groups tested for rate of growth. For refrigerated and bone meal, the average rate of growth was 4.05 centimeters per week. For refrigerated no bone meal, the average rate of growth was 7.09 centimeters per week. For room temperature and bone meal the average rate of growth was 5.52 centimeters per week. For room temperature and no bone meal the average rate of growth was 5.74 centimeters per week.
Step 7: Conclusion
The data supports the hypothesis that refrigerated bulbs will grow faster than room temperature bulbs. Bone meal did not affect how soon the daffodils grew. Gardeners would refrigerate bulbs if there was a need to have the flowers blooming by a particular time. they would not purchase bone meal to have them growing sooner.
Conclusion continued....
The data does not support the hypothesis that bone meal will cause bulbs grow faster. The data was inconclusive wether refrigeration increased the rate of growth. Gardeners would not use bone meal to speed growth. More tests would need to be completed to see if refrigeration affects the rate of growth.
