PRESENTATION OUTLINE

TISSUES

SIMPLE SQUAMOS EPITHELIUM

  • Location- Combined with conenctive tissues
  • and neural tissuea in skeletal muscles
  • Functions- Moves or stabilizes the position of the skeleton,
  • Guards entrances and exits to the digestive, respiratory, and
  • Urinary tracts, generates heat, protects internal organs

SIMPLE CUBOIDAL EPITHELIUM

  • Locations- glands, ducts, thyroid glands,
  • Portions of kidney tubules
  • Functions- Limited protection,
  • Secretion, absorption

SIMPLE COLUMNAR EPITHELIUM

  • Locations- Lining of stomach, intestine, gallbladder,
  • Uterine tubes, and collecting ducts of kidneys
  • Functions- protection, secretion, absorption

SIMPLE COLUMNAR EPITHELIUM

  • Locations- lining of stomach, intestine, gallbladder
  • Uterine tubes, collecting ducts of kidneys
  • Functions- Protection, secretion
  • Absoption

STRATIFIED SQUAMOUS EPITHELIA

  • Locations- Surface of skin, lining of mouth,
  • Toungue, esophagus, and anus
  • Functions- prevents organs from dehydrating,
  • Hydrates organs, prevents abrasion

STRATIFIED SQUAMOUS EPITHELIUM

  • Locations- Surface of skin, lining of mouth
  • Esophagus, rectum, anus, and fagina
  • Functions- provides physical protection against
  • abrasions, pathogens, and chemical attack

STRATIFIED COLUMNAR EPITHELIA

  • Locations- pharynx, epiglottis,
  • Anus, urethra, exceetory ducts
  • Functions- Secretion, protection

PSEUDOSTRATIFIED CILIATED COLUMAN EPITTHELIUM

  • Locations- Lining of nasal cavity, trachea,
  • Brochi, portions of male reproductive tract
  • Functions- Protection, secretion

TRANSITIONAL EPITHELIUM

  • Locations- Urinary bladder, ureters
  • Renal pelvis of kidneys
  • Functions- Permits expansion
  • and recoil after stretching

BLOOD

  • Locations- cardiovascular system
  • Functions- transport oxygen,
  • Fight illness, clotting

LYMPH

  • Locations- lymphoid system
  • Functions- picks up and destroys
  • bacteria and cancer cells

LOOSE CONNECTIVE TISSUE

  • Locations- Beneath dermis of skin, digestive tract, around joints
  • Respiratory and urinary tracts, between muscles, around blood vessels
  • Functions- Cushions organs, provides support but permits indepentend movements
  • Phagocytic cell provide defense against pathogens

ADIPOSE TISSUE

  • Locations- Deep the the skin, especially at sides,
  • buttocks, breasts, padding around eyes and kindeys
  • Functions- Provides padding and cushions socks,
  • Insulates, stores energy reserves

DENSE REGULAR CONNECTIVE TISSUE

  • Locations- Between skeletal muscles and skeleton, between bones,
  • Covering skeletal muscles, capsules of internal organs
  • Functions- Provides firm attatchment, conducts pull of muscles,
  • Reduces friction between muscles, stabilizes position of bones,
  • Helps to prevent over expansion of organs

DENSE IRREGULAR CONNECTIVE TISSUE

  • Locations- Dermis, white layer of eyeball,
  • Walls of large tubular organs

HYALINE CARTILAGE

  • Locations- between tips of ribs and bones of sternum,
  • Covering bone surfaces at synovial joints, supporting larynx,
  • Trachea, bronchi forming part of nasal septum
  • Functions- provides stiff but somewhat flexible support,
  • Reduces friction between bony surfaces

ELASTIC CARTILAGE

  • Locations- Auricle of eternal ear, epiglottis auditory tube
  • Cuneiform cartilages of larynx
  • Functions- Provides support, but tolerates distortion without
  • Damage and returns to its origional shape

FIBROUS CARTILAGE

  • Locations- pads with knee joint, interverbal discs
  • Between pubic bones of pelvis
  • Functions- resists compression, limits relative movement
  • Bone-to-bone contact

BONE(OSSEOUS TISSUE)

  • Locations- Bone
  • Function- Support bone, make bone stronger,

SKELETAL MUSCLE TISSUE

  • Locations- Combined and connective tissues and
  • neural tissue in skeletal muscles
  • Functions- Moves or stabilizes the position of the skeleton,
  • guards entrances and exits to the digestive, respiratory,
  • and urinary tracts, generates heart, protects internal organs

CARDIAC MUSCLE TISSUE

  • Locations- Heart
  • Functions- circulates blood,
  • Maintains blood pressure

SMOOTH MUSCLE TISSUE

  • Locations- Found in the walls of blood vessels and in
  • digestive, respiratory, urinary, and reproductive organs
  • Functions- Moves food, urine, and reproductive tract secretions,
  • Controls diameter of respiratory passageways,
  • Regulates diameter of blood vessels
