WHAT MAKES A WATERFOWL

  • Classification: Kingdom: Animalia, Phylum: Chordata, Class: Aves, Order: Anserformes, Family : Anatide, Genus: Anser

WHAT MAKES A WATERFOWL CONT.

  • Includes ducks and geese.
  • Strong swimmers and strong flyers.
  • Have webbed feet.

CHINESE GOOSE

  • Have aerated beaks
  • Generally aggressive
  • Between 81 and 94 centimeters tall.
  • Weigh between 2.8 and 3.5 kg.
  • Live in rivers and lakes or close to a source of water.
  • Eat mostly sedges, although the diet changes throughout the season.

MALLARD

  • Weight: 2.4-2.7 Lbs.
  • Live in areas near water such as ponds
  • Eats mollusks, crustacean, grass, and berries
  • Ducks move by swimming, walking or flying

MALLARD (CONT.)

  • Reproduce sexually
  • Predators are: Crows, Foxes, and Coyotes
  • Close relative is a Black Duck

Geese fly in a "V" to conserve energy.

Mother ducks will sacrifice themselves to keep the offspring safe.
