CORAL SNAKE

SIZE AND WEIGHT

  • A coral snake can be 3 feet in length
  • It can also be larger than 5 feet (150) cm
  • A Coral Snake can weigh 10 lbs

COLORS AND PATTERNS

  • Have large red and black colored bands
  • And yellow bands encircling the snake

DIET

  • Insects,lizards
  • Small snakes,frogs
  • Small reptiles, amphibians

HOW THE KILL THEIR PREY

  • Coral snakes bite their prey
  • Then they inject neurotoxic venom in the bite
  • That paralyzes the prey and shuts down heart and lungs
  • The venom can kill an adult

POISONOUS

  • If bitten by this poisonous snake the may not be painful right away
  • The effect of the venom may not be felt until a few hours later

EGGS

  • It has eggs
  • It lays 2-3 eggs in the summer
  • It doesn't give birth to live young
  • Once they are born they are seven inches
  • Already full grown when hatched

DESCRIPTION

  • Has round pupils
  • Blunt head
  • No heat sensing pits
  • Forked tounge
