CORTES FACTS

• During the 1500 a Spanish ruler called Diego Velasquez heard about a big and rich Aztec empire in Mexico.
• In 1519 Cortes set sail from Cuba with 600 men, 11ships and a lot of horses
• In 1524 new Spain became the richest and largest place in Europe. Spain had just become the most powerful nation in Europe.
• In 1536 Cortes led an expedition that discovered Baja, Calafornia.
• In 1541 Cortes retired he lived in Spain until he died in 1547.
