CRIME IN COSTA RICA

  • There was 349 murders reported in 2012
  • There were 916 recorded accounts of credit card fraud
  • 9 U.S. Citizens reported to have been sexually assaulted

SAN JOSE

  • The criminal threat for San Jose is 'high' rated by the U.S department of state
  • Most crimes are committed at night, and consist of home invasion and general burglary
  • Tourists are advised that if they go to San Jose, to not stay there over night

  • Criminals have been know to puncture the tires of rental cars
  • When the person pulls over to change the tire,
  • They are quickly joined by "good Samaritans".
  • While changing your tires they steel all of your belongings
  • If you resist they attack you .

  • Other crimes include dropping change or money on a bus
  • When a person bends down to pick it up for them
  • A pickpocket steels that persons wallet

ABORTIONS

  • Abortions are illegal in Costa Rica
  • There are about 27,000 illegal abortion annually

DRUGS

  • Drugs are illegal in Costa Rica
  • The enforcement of drug laws there is generally laid back
  • Marijuana, coke, and E are the most common drugs

MARIJUANA

  • Marijuana is the most common drug in Costa Rica
  • Marijuana is most commonly found at or near the beach towns and shores
  • It is of low general quality

OTHER DRUGS

  • Coke can be found at most tourist locations.
  • Due to the large amount of cattle ranching in Costa Rica
  • Shrooms are not hard to find.
  • E can be found at most clubs and loans the beaches
