All about Costa Rica

  • Costa Rica is located near the bottom of North America, and in between Panama and Nicaragua
  • The population in 2013 was 4,872 million
  • The most spoken language is Spanish
  • the temperature in Costa Rica ranges from 70°-81°f
  • rainy seasons are May - November

Traditions:Christmas

  • everyone bakes pork legs and refreshing eggnogs
  • anyone who has a job gets a bonus to buy other people gifts and to buy decorations for themselves
  • the families will have dinner all together then go to the Christmas Eve Midnight Mass

history behind Costa Rica

  • Christopher Columbus was the first European to find Costa Rica in 1502
  • Spaniard Gill Gonzalez Davila was chosen to name this country
  • Once Christopher Columbus arrived in Costa Rica already four tribes had been living there ( Caribs, Borucas, Chibchas, and Diquis )
  • The first successful establishment was not till 1562 when Cartago was founded

costums

  • women stay home and work around the house
  • women are also expected to dress nicely and wear make up
  • no longer sexism or gender inequalities. women can work outside the house in the gardens for salaries
  • people that live in Costa Rica are known for being late to activities, usually 30 mins to and hour late
  • when greeting someone, say hello or goodbye followed with a light kiss

  • presents are always exchanged on Christmas, Father's Day, Birthdays, and the most important on to them, Mother's Day
  • everyone is supposed to take pride in the way they dress. Outside of work they dress casually but when at work they were their finest clothes
