The Cotton Gin is commonly known as the beginning of the Industrial Revoultion.

-Economically-
The Cotton Gin provided jobs for many Americans, and also increased the production of cotton due to the higher demand of cotton.

-Environment-
Cotton became Americas leading crop after the invention of the cotton gin. In 1830 the US produced 750,000 bales of cotton. By 1850 this increased to about 2.8 million bales.

-Social-
As cotton demand increased, more cotton need to be grown and picked. This gave southern plantation owners a reason to expand slavery for picking cotton. Slave population increased from 700,000 in 1790, to about 3.2 million in 1850.

The Cotton Gin greatly improved cotton production, but also increased slavery in the South. Many people say the Cotton Gin was one of many reasons for the Civil War.
