COTTONMOUTH

SIZE & LENGTH

  • Cotton mouths are up to 30 to 40 inches
  • Occasionally they can get up to 74 inches

BIGGEST COTTONMOUTH RECORDED

COLORS AND PATTERNS

  • Outer edges of the bands are usually black and narrow as they approach the backbone
  • The tail is black
  • Sometimes they have a yellow pattern on their head

SOME PATTERNS

DIET

  • Cottonmouths will only eat something if it's dead
  • They eat small alligators, toads, birds, snails, and bird eggs
  • They also feed on smaller snakes, including their own species

HOW IT TRAPS

  • They make a noise with their tail to attract the animal
  • When it is close enough the snake attacks

  • The cotton mouth is certainly poisonous

  • During swelling, severe itching begins
