HISTORY OF SOUTH KOREA

  • In 2333 BC the first Korean state developed along the Taedong River.
  • In 313, Koguryo conquered Nangnang and took control of the northern half of Korea.
  • General Yi became king of Koryo in 1392.
  • Korea remained under Japanese control until 1945, when Japan defeated in WWII.
  • In October 1987, a new democratic constitution was adopted by a referendum of all the voters.

MAJOR LANGUAGES

  • Korean is the official language of South Korea.

  • 1592-1598: unsuccessful invasion on Korea.
  • 1904-1905: Russo- Japanese war.
  • 1941: Pacific war starts then they surrender in 1945 after two atomic bombs are dropped over Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

HISTORY

  • In 1595, the military defeated the force China's Qing Dynasty to cede Taiwan to Japan.
  • In 1949, 2 million Nationalists fled to Taiwan and established a government.
  • In 1950, the ruling authorities gradually democratized and incorporated the local population.
  • In 2000, Taiwan underwent its first peaceful transfer of power from the Nationalist.
