IN 1911, ELMER MCCURDY MISTAKENLY ROBBED A PASSENGER ON A TRAIN, HE THOUGHT THE TRAIN HAD CONTAINED $1000. THE DISAPPOINTED OUTLAW MADE OFF WITH JUST $46 & WAS SHOT BY LAWMEN AFTER THE ROBBERY.

Feral camels once roamed the plains of Tejas. The U.S. Camel Corps was established in 1856 at Camp Verde, TX. The army imported 66 camels from the Middle East. They spent regurgitated & defied orders. The experiment was generally deemed a success.

Thanks to a Winchester rifle, we now know that Billy the kid wasn't left-handed. A really famous photograph of Billy the kid shows him with a gun belt on his left side. The portrait fueled assumptions that the outlaw, born William Bonney, was left-handed.

The California Gold Rush of 1849 wasn't America's first gold rush, it wasn't even the second. When young Conrad Reed found a large yellow rock in his fathers field in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, in 1799. The two men had no idea of what it was, his fathers name is John Reed.

The famed gunfight at the O.K. Corral wasn't much of a shootout...and didn't take place at the O.K. Corral. This gunfight was one of the most famous ones in history. The shootout between the 3 Earp brothers, Doc Holliday, Billy Claireborne, the 2 Clanton brothers, and the 2 McLaury brothers. This gunfight only lasted about 30 secs. The shooting occurred near the current intersection of 3rd Street & Fremont Street in Tombstone, AZ.

Anyone who has watched the tv show "Gunsmoke" growing up is very well acquainted with Miss Kitty's Long Branch Saloon of Dodge City, Kansas. What viewers may not have realized is that the Long Branch really did exist, but the original saloon burned down in the great Front Street fire of 1885.

A political civil war battle was fought in an very unlikely place, New Mexico. Cripple Creek gold, Confederate General Henry Hopkins Sibley invaded NM Territory from the south in early 1862. He had believed he could march up the Rio Grande and take Colorado.

Cowboys wore special clothing that helped them with their jobs. They wore large 10gallon hats to protect them from the rain and the sun. They also wore special boots to help them to slip in and out of the stirrups when riding a horse. Another important piece of clothing for Cowboys were bandanas, which could be used to protect them from dust kicked up by cattle.

Cowboy a Code -
The Cowboys of the old Wild West had an unwritten code that they would live by. The code included such rules as being courteous, always saying "howdy", don't wave at a man on a horse, you should nod. Also, never ride another mans horse without his permission and always help someone in need, and never put on another mans hat....never.

A lot of cowboys back in the Wild West didn't get along very well, so when they would fight, they would either actually fight or have a duel with their revolvers. A duel would always solve their differences.
