PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Crazy horse was an eye-catcher because he was physically different from his tribe. he was fair-skinned which made him stand out among children his age and instead of straight jet bLack hair crazy horse had brown curly hair. because of this. it laid groundwork towards his lonely and distant personality.
Crazy horse denied to be photographed and therefore many Lakota's believe that this man in the image is not him. there are people who believe its him but there is not enough evidence to prove this man is crazy horse.
Why there were no treaty signings
crazy horse attempted to resist Westernizing influences, also know an colonization, and decline treaties that were being offered. During his time of war he had witnessed violations with a treaty that was signed by the President in 1868. The president promised that the blacks hills would forever be the sacred land of the indians. SOon, settlers discovered gold in the black hills and battles arose to take the resources.
As a teenager, crazy horse's dad took him to a high mountain to pray and fast for three days and three nights. during that time he would pray for a vision and ask what he should do to protect his tribe. he soon had a vision of a native warrior with plain clothing, a rock behind his ear with a feather facing upward, stripes that looked like lightning all over his face and white spots all over his body.
Why bullets never hit crazy horse
after having his vision, crazy horse knew that he had to be that native warrior the great spirit showed him to be. he lead his tribe to war in order to protect their ways of life. he wore the same outfit as the warrior and with that, bullets fired from the settlers would fly right by him but never hit him and the settlers always questioned why their bullets never hit crazy horse.
"Crazy Horse dreamed and went into the world where there is nothing but the spirits of things. That is the real world that is behind this one, and everything we see here is something like a shadow from that world..., It was this vision that gave him his great power, for when he went into a fight, he has only to think of that world to be in it again, so that he could go through anything and not be hurt." - Black Elk
The killing of crazy horse
in order to protect his people, crazy horse was left with no choice but to surrender to the immigrants. He was promised a reserve for him and his tribe, but it did not happen. Crazy horse was on Red clouds reserve when his wife got sick, he took her to her family 40 miles out without permission. on his was back, government scouts arrested him and when crazy horse saw the prison he began to resist and pulled out a hunting knife.
with hopes of freeing his brothers and sisters already imprisoned, crazy horse was seized by little big man, A companion of Crazy Horse, because he was commanded to do so by the Indian policeman. While being held down, an infantry man penetrated his bayonet into the back of Crazy horse, hitting his liver. there are different records that hold information on the day crazy horse died, some say he died the same night on September 5th, 1877 and some say he passed away in the morning of september 6th, 1877.
Crazy horse was not always named crazy horse, he was born with the native american name Tashunka witko. He was given the name crazy horse when he demonstrated his skills as a warrior to his father.
