Simple steps and notes on creating a Facebook Page.

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Create a Facebook Page

Simple way to keep and share the things you find important

But what is a Facebook Page?

  • Facebook Account
  • Facebook page
Facebook Account: That's what you have already. You share your photos, see what your friends are up to, share what’s happening with you. Friends connect to you using “Add Friend”. You just have one Account.

Facebook Page: a "Page" hooks to your Account. You can share your photos and posts just like your account, People connect by clicking “Like”. You can have more than one page. Lots of Apps available for enhancing your page over time. Great way to keep a certain type of posts together.

Examples: A Family Reunion page, your church group page, your recipes and photos, a Vacation memory page

Things you need before you start

  • A Facebook Account (of course)
  • A name (title) for your page
  • A few photos
You're going to need a Facebook Account – of course - and you already have one or you wouldn't even be thinking about making a Facebook page.

What are you going to call your page - "My Vacation," "My Bible Study," "Things I don't want to forget," - it's up to you.

But, remember, there are thousands of pages out there - use something creative that reflects YOU!

You're going to need that little square photo for the corner of your new Page heading - just like the one on your regular Facebook Account. This photo should help describe your new page.

Note: It’s much easier to create your page from a computer than it is from a tablet or smart phone

Let's get started - click Create Page

Login to your Facebook Account

Go ahead – scan your news feed – you know you want to 
Ok – now – look up in the right hand corner, see that little black triangle over there? Click it!

A little menu comes up – see that line that says Create Page – click that!

Create Page screen - pick the best option for you

Here you select what kind of page is best for you. There are 6 different kinds you can choose from – depends on what you’re doing.

This link will show you all the details for the pages: http://www.marketinggum.com/types-of-facebook-pages-for-business/

You can change the type later if you pick the wrong one here, but it’s best to pick the best fit at the start.

You can click each of the 6 types to see more definition of each.

We're going to be choosing "Causes and Communities" - it's the easiest

Choose a type and name your page.

When you click one – a drop down list of choices and box to enter your page name is displayed

When you decide which kind of page best fits your need, click it and the pick the best desctiption from the dropdown and enter your page name

In this example – we’re going to pick the Cause or Community in the bottom, right corner. There's no description choice, so we'll just enter a Title “Cathy’s Cuisine”

Then click the Get Started button

Get Started

  • About
  • Photo
  • Add to Favorites
  • Preferred Audience
When you click that Get Started button, you get a new screen that will walk you through a few questions.

This is a kind of like a Wizard – you go through each question screen one at a time.

About

First – “About” – add some text to tell people what your page is about.

Type a name for your page in the box at the bottom. This will be used to find your page on the web. We call this a "URL."

Click the Save Info button to move on to question 2.

Profile Photo

Click Upload from Computer
Your Explorer window will open
Locate your photo and highlight it
Click open and your photo is loaded

Click the Next button

Add to Favorites

Clicking the Add to Favorites button will make your new page show up in the Favorites area on your main Account page.

This makes it easy to find later.

Then click the Next button

Preferred Audience

Helps people find your page – matches up with other “likes” they’ve made.

Click in the Search Interests box and walk through the list to find the best entry

You can add more – just click the Search Interests again

If you change your mind, just select the item you want to remove and click the little “x”

Click the Save button when you’re done.

Way to go - you've created a page!

Things you'll want to do to finish up:

Click the Add a Cover button to put a cover photo on your page

Click Invite Friends to like this Page – to let your Facebook friends know you built a page

Click the Like button yourself – another way for your friends to see your new page

Now get busy!

Now that you have a page:

Give people a reason to come back after they Like your page

Post something every couple days

Invite people to share their own items

Update photos and status messages

Just like food – keep your page fresh and folks will enjoy it more.

There’s a whole lot of info out on the web about Pages and ways to use them – jump on Google or you favorite search tool and search for “Facebook Page Ideas” or something similar.

Enjoy! And have fun!
