WRITING A TOPIC SENTENCE

• Name the topic
• Express an idea about the topic

EXAMPLE

• T.S.= Penguins continue to face extinction.
• Topic: Penguins
• What about the the topic? Face extinction

EXAMPLE

• T.S.= Reality tv can be a great opportunity for teens.
• Topic: Reality television
• What about the topic? Great opportunity for teens.

LOCATION

• Is often the first sentence
• Can be the last sentence

SUMMARY

• The topic sentence tells the main idea.
• Name the topic
