Steps to Accountability

  • See It
  • Own It
  • Solve It
  • Do It

Model Accountability

  • Ask yourself "What else can I do"?
  • Urge others to ask that question
  • Invite feedback on how you're perceived
  • Provide honest, encouraging feedback when they drop below the line

Coaching "Above The Line"

  • Don't use below the line as "I gotcha"
  • This propels them back into the victim cycle
  • Separate the person from the behavior
  • Listen, Acknowledge, Ask, Coach, Commit

Coaching Scenario:

  • John has been with the company 5 years. Lately you've seen his work decline, not finishing projects on time, complaining about work, blaming others, speaking horribly about co-workers, very negative....How will you coach him above the line?
