• God creates out of nothing
• God alone is the creator
• Everything depends on God

tôhû wā bōhû

tôhû implies lack of form or being ‘formless’

bōhû being void or empty

mighty wind sweeping over the waters

Send forth your spirit, they are created
and you renew the face of the earth.

God progressively reveals

• Abram is call by promises (12:1-3)
• The covenant is announced through a vision (15:1-21)
• “the father of a multitude of nations” (17:4-5)
• kings would stem form him (17:6)

God changes Abram’s name to Abraham (17:5), and Sarai’s name to Sarah (17:15).
