Great technology not only gives kids tools to create, but it also empowers and inspires them.
What kinds of things have you created with technology?
What kinds of things have your students created?
Today we will not only look at a rationale for using technology to empower the creative spirit, but also some of the tools and apps out there that could be used effectively.
1. Creativity and innovation Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.
a. Apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes
b. Create original works as a means of personal or group expression
c. Use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues
There is a lot of talk about digital literacy, but unless we allow our students and ourselves the opportunity to creat information, they won't ever fully understand.
Communicating Collaborating Creating Thinking critically about what they're doing and learning
When students are using creative skills to develop projects and products, these skills often come naturally.
What do I need to communincate to my audience? Who can I work with? What resources do I need? What is the best tool for the project or product I want to develop? How can I get my ideas across? Who can help me?
Technology increases the sophistication of products
I remember (41+ years) the projects and products of years ago. Not very sophisticated compared to what we can accomplish today. The visual realm has exploded with the use of web resources, digital cameras, iMovie, Vine, Facebook. We share more and more. Students can create polished projects and media that can easily compete with those of many adults.
With media, it's much easier to add the personal touch. Students can take their own photos to add to projects. They can create their own movies to share. Blogs can be used to communicate with parents or other students.
