SISYPHUS

  • Crime- Sysyphus tattled on Zeus for carrying away Asopus' daughter
  • Punishment- forced to forever roll a rock uphill and never make it

TANTALUS

  • Crime- killed and boiled his son to serve to the gods
  • Punishment- was sentenced to a pool in Hades where everytime he reached
  • For food or water, it moved just out of his reach.

IXION

  • Crime- first he killed his father in-law, then bragged about sleeping
  • With Zeus' wife Hera
  • Punishment- bound eternally to a flaming spinning wheel

NIOBE

  • Crime- tried ro deceive and defy the gods, wanted to be worshipped
  • Punishment- all of her kids were killed and she turned into a stone wet with tears forever

THE DANAIDS

  • Crime- 49/50 danaids killed their husbands on wedding night as told
  • Hypermnestra did not kill her husband but was thrown into jail for trechery
  • Punishment- the 49 were forced to get water from the river with jars that had holes
  • So the water ran out and they had to do it again for eternity

SALMONEUS

  • Crime- pretended to be Zeus
  • Punishment- killed by Zeus with his thunderbolt

ANTIGONE

  • Crime- buried her brother against orders
  • Punishment- was put to death

MY OPINION

  • I belive that the punishments given were reasonable due to the fact that
  • They are gods and their punishments can be more brutal. Although these
  • Punishments were quite unusual and most lasted for eternity which is torturous.
