My ideal classroom is a creative celebration that we can all learn from one another’s diversity. It is a safe place to explore and share. Various learning strategies, when experienced through learning styles, join understanding and retention like a magnet. Visual aids, tactile and kinesthetic opportunities are interwoven into lessons. I utilize routine as much as possible, while stretching students by upsetting the apple cart every now and then. Collaboration with staff and EA Supports create the best inclusive learning environment for everyone.

In Social Studies, the process of self reflection challenges students to take risks, and develops wisdom when to use restraint. It is key to understanding how students connect and contribute to the world around them. I am not only a teacher but a facilitator of these meaningful interactions. Students are encouraged to grapple with Social Injustices and feel like they are a part of something greater than themselves to impact change around them. Specific goals of Treaty Education include helping students learn about treaty relationships and the spirit and intent of treaties within their historical context. It is important to understand the treaty promises and their provisions to correct the perspective and the narrative moving forward in Truth and Reconciliation or Reconcili-action - a term coined by Stan Wesley who is an amazing and inspiring Anishnabe mentor from Ontario.
