NUCLEUS - TOWN HALL

The nucleus is like the town hall because it is where all of the information is stored along with where the executive decisions for the city or cell are made. They both contain a main office (nucleolus), a mayor (DNA), and a outer wall (cell membrane).

CYTOPLASM - AIR

Cytoplasm is like the air in a city because it isn't much to the naked eye but it surrounds everything inside of the city or cell.

VACUOLES - STORAGE UNITS

Vacuoles are like storage units because they store different types of materials in the cell.

CONTRACTILE VACUOLE - SEWER

The contractile vacuole in a cell is like the sewer in a city because they pump excess water out the cell.

VESICLES - DELIVERY TRUCK

Vesicles in a cell are like delivery trucks because they store and move materials between cell organelles to and from the cell surface.

LYSOSOMES - WASTE MANAGEMENT

Lysosomes in the cell are like the waste management in a city because they remove junk so the cell stays clean and non-cluttered.

CYTOSKELETON - THE METRO

The cytoskeleton in cell is like a public transportation system in a city because they both help transport materials between different parts of the cell. The cytoskeleton also maintains the cell shape of the cell while the metro lines are a key component while building a city.

MICROTUBULES - ROADS

Microtubules in a cell are like streets in a city because they help in cell division and in maintaining cell shape. Streets in a city serve a very similar purpose.

CENTRIOLES - CITY COUNCIL

Centrioles are like the city council because it is located near the nucleus (the city hall) and help organize cell division. The city council will also help keep the city in order.

MICROFILAMENTS - STEEL GIRDERS

Microfilaments are like steal girders because they are both individual structured that form a complex network that produces a tough framework that supports a structure.

RIBOSOMES - CONSTRUCTION WORKERS

Ribosomes are like construction workers because they both just follow their instructions given to them by their boss (in a cell the DNA) to produce a product.

ROUGH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM - RESTAURANTS

The rough ER is like a restaurant in a city because proteins are inserted into the rough ER and the chemically modified to be released just like the food is delivered, prepared, and then served in a restaurant.

The smooth ER is like a hospital because it contains enzymes (doctors) that perform special tasks that keep the cell healthy.

The Golgi apparatus is like the post office in a cell because in it the proteins (packages) are modified, sorted, and shipped.

Chloroplasts are like solar panels because they absorb the energy from the sun and convert it into energy.

MITOCHONDRIA - POWER CELL

The mitochondria is the power house of the cell because it converts the energy stored there into food (or electricity in a city).

CELL WALL - CITY WALL

The cell wall is like a city wall because it protects the cell just like city wall protects the city.

CELL MEMBRANE - BORDER CONTROL

The cell membrane is like border control because it regulates when can come in and out of the cell.

CILIA/FLAGELLUM - AIRPORT

Even though an entire its can't just move and swim away, the cilia and flagella in a cell are similar to airports because they can move anything into or out of the cell.
