A pastel-haired teen approached a Bangladeshi sunglasses seller. "Do you have a bindi?" she asked."At least five of them come every day," he said. "My wife's daily routine is fashion now." Millions of women from South Asian region wear a bindi as a signifier of their marital status or as a cultural symbol. This is starting to become a fashion accessory in many white cultures. They have made their appearance at many festivals such as Coachella worn by Vanessa Hudgens. To women of South Asian descent this is much more than a fashion trend, a movement has been created called #reclaimthebindi which they hope will identify that this is not a fashion trend but apart of peoples culture.

Lately, septum rings have become a huge trend in the fashion industry, especially at many music festivals. Although many people have been wearing them it does not mean it is being respectful even if they have claimed that. This is one example of cultural insensitivity.

Why is this not okay? This is not okay because in these cultures these items are reserved for significant events such as funerals, births, weddings. They are vital points in their lives that they share with their community and people. It is how they express themselves as collective.
