1950

  • Zenith introduces “lazy bones” tuning – change all television stations from the comfort of your easy chair. Hand held device plugs into TV
  • Antihistamines enter popular use for treatment of allergies and head-colds.
  • Telephone Answering Machine created by Bell Laboratories and Western Electric. This new device will make contacting people easier if they are unable to answer the phone.

1951

  • UNIVAC First commercial computer, this was the first time businesses could use a PC.
  • American automobile manufacturer Chrysler Corporation introduces power steering, making steering and turning the tires of a vehicle much easier.
  • J. Andre-Thomas invents the first heart-lung machine, allowing advanced life-support during open-heart surgery, allowing Doctors less worry while operating.

1952

  • Sony, a brand new Japanese company, introduces the first pocket-sized transistor radio, which became popular because it allowed the transportation of such sound maker devices.

1953

  • The first 3-D movie is shown giving a more fun experience while watching.
  • Francis Crick and James Watson discover the “double helix” of DNA, good for learning more about the body.
  • Dr. Jonas Salk announces discovery of the vaccine for polio
  • Dow Chemical creates Saran Wrap which is awesome for pranks.
  • TV color broadcasting, allowing better quality.

1954

  • In my opinion from the research I did I saw nothing good that was created in this year.

1955

  • Tetracycline invented, this "broad spectrum" antibiotic is used to treat the common acne. Very useful with the teens.
  • Optic fiber invented, this became useful when it came to communication on multiple levels.

1956

  • The first computer hard disk used, making pirating possible since 1956! :D
  • Bette Nesmith Graham invented "Mistake Out," later renamed Liquid Paper, to paint over mistakes made with a typewriter, this is self explanatory in my opinion.

1957

  • Fortran (computer language) invented. This EXTREMELY old computing language was created to help use math with code and computers.
