PRESENTATION OUTLINE
I live in the United States, which has six basic social positions: upper class, new money, middle class, working class, working poor, and poverty level. I consider my family as part of the middle class. My parents have jobs, and have attended college, but do not wear uniforms.
For my personal social status in school, I'm somewhere in the middle, as well. Lots of people know my name, but I'm not a prep.
Some non-religious customs my family practices include brunch on Mothers' Day, and a gift for Dad on Fathers' Day. Eating cake on a birthday is a custom too, isn't it?
I took after my father's religion, and was raised Jewish, but my mother is a Catholic. Part of my faith is a batmitzvah, which is a coming of age service, then party.
We are not religious at all on most days. We open presents on Christmas Eve, but I don't believe that is observing the holiday properly.
MY FAMILY SPEAKS STANDARD AMERICAN ENGLISH
- Pronounce "r" after a consonant (ex: car, farther, scar)
- Different vocabulary from Canada, England, South Africa, or Australia (ex: pickup truck, flashlight, drugstore, bathroom, shopping cart)
- Pronounce some t's as d's (ex: metal, letter, better, button)
I think the biggest components of American art (1700s-present) consists of historical paintings/portraits in oil, landscapes, quilts and skyscrapers
I express myself through painting (acrylic because oil is expensive), and writing (journaling, poetry, or personal narritives).
FORMS OF GOVERNMENT
- Maryland's governor Larry Hogan was elected by popular vote.
- The Court of Appeals is the highest court in state. The administrators set guidelines for the court system of Maryland.
- Obama deals with foreign affairs.
- My parents are democratic at the moment.
My family contributes to the economy by working for a cash compensation, and spend money for goods. My dad pays me allowence every once in a while, but I don't do much.
Sadly I don't think my culture is particularly interesting, but thanks for listening.
