PRESENTATION OUTLINE
TRACKING THE SPREAD OF DEADLY NEW CORONAVIRUS
A map created by U.S. researchers tracks in real-time a virus in China that has sickened almost 6,000 people and resulted in 132 deaths as of January 29.Global public health officials are concerned about its potential to spread around the world, because there has been two cases outside of Wuhan, its origin city. One in Washington, and one in Chicago.
I think the authors purpose was to explain and describe, because the author wanted to describe the map and explain the coronavirus
This is important because the coronavirus is a deadly virus that has the potential to spread around the world. The coronavirus spreads very easily, through the water droplets, when someone coughs/sneezes. If people aren’t aware, they might travel to Wuhan, where they could get infected, and bring it back to where they came from!
I chose this article because I have heard about the coronavirus, so I wanted to read this to learn more. Another reason is because this is a dangerous health/science situation, so I wanted to make sure i was doing everything I could to stay safe.
I think this fits into the historic lens because the coronavirus used to be a smaller virus, SARS and then mutated into MERS, which eventually became the coronavirus we know today.
I think this fits into the civic lens because the government has to get involved in China, to try and help everybody to get better, and, the US government stopped all travel to/from China.
This fits into the geographic lens because the factories that produce medicines, and hospitals both have to produce a lot of waste, which is harmful for the environment.
This fits into the economic lens because it costs the government money to try and fix this problem, families pay for treatment, airlines stop travel to China, which is a big hotspot for travel.
This fits into the social/cultural lens because families can’t travel to China, and because having someone with a serious disease just tears families apart.
