Definition
It is a disorder that occurs when your body is exposed to high levels of cortisol. It may also occur if you take to much cortisol or other steroid hormones
Other people develop Cushing's syndrome because their bodies produce to much cortisol this hormone is found in the adrenal gland
Symptoms:
Fatigue, headaches, round red full face, slow growth with children, weight gain ,skin infections
Women's Cushing syndrome: excess hair growth on face neck chest and thighs
Periods that become irregular or stop
Men:
▪️decreased or no desire for sex
▪️Impotence
Test
-physical exam
-blood cortisol level
-blood sugar
-acth level
-24 hour urine or cortisol creatinine
treatment: depends on causes
by cortosteroid use:
-doctor will instruct you to slowly decrease medicine
-blood sugar high cholesterol level and bone thinning are closely monitored
by a pituitary or a tumor:
-surgery to remove tumor
-radiation after removal of Tumor
-cortisol replacement therapy after surgery
