PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Cuttlefish

By: Lucy and Brooke
Start with your name and the name of your project. In some cases, a presentation will start with an attention-grabbing opening, an anecdote, a dramatic stat or fact, or a question for the audience. These devices help to engage the audience, grab everyone's attention, and establish your confidence as you get going.

How do they defend themselves?

  • It defends it's self by:
  • Squirting black ink at predators that tastes bad and coats its nostrils and also uses jet propulsion with its siphon
  • Mainly famous for its ability to change color (it's even better than a chameleons!) and also change the texture of its skin
  • Predators= Humans, large fish, sharks and even other cuttlefish (some of the same species!)
Explain why this product/service is needed and provide some context for your project. Why is the problem worth solving?

What is the anatomy of a cuttlefish?

  • Cuttlefish live in oceans around the world in big groups
  • There are over 120 known species of cuttlefish
  • Sizes range from 15 cm to half a meter (not including its tentacles)
What have you done in the past that has prepared you to take on this new challenge? Why are you well-suited to succeed in this venture? How will others help you, and what relevant skills/experience will they bring to the project? How will you go about building your team from here and adding necessary expertise?

How do they get their food?

  • When it is close enough to its prey it opens apart its eight arms and out shoots two deceptively long feeding tentacle. On the end of each is a pad covered in suckers that grasp hold of the prey and quickly pull it close to the cuttlefish's mouth that looks like a parrot's beak.
Fill in additional information here that will answer questions lingering in the audience. What does the competitive landscape look like? What are some obstacles you anticipate you'll have to overcome? How will your design approach distinguish your project? What unique approach/vision/ideals do you have that inform the project in progress?

Fun Facts

  • Cuttlefish have a gas filled bone in them which allows them to be buoyant.
  • Cuttlefish are not fish!
  • The scientific name for a cuttlefish is Sepia
  • The cephalopods (meaning 'head-footed'), a group of molluscs containing the octopuses, squid and cuttlefish, are probably the most intelligent of all invertebrates.
  • They have well-developed heads, with large eyes and mouths that feature beak-like jaws.
  • The body of the common cuttlefish is flattened and broad, and is therefore oval in cross-section
  • A fin runs around the body from behind the head.
  • Cuttlefish swim using the fin that passes around the body.
  • Cuttlefish swim using the fin that passes around the body.
  • They can also rapidly expel water and move quickly by jet-propulsion.
