PRESENTATION OUTLINE

CYSTIC FIBEROSIS

BY CLAYTON JOHNSON

DISCOVERER

  • Baron Carl von Rokitansky discoverd the first case of cystic Fiberosis.
  • He discoverd it after an autopsy on a dead patient in witch the
  • cause of death was at first reported as a meconium ileus. But he later
  • discoverd that it wasn't that but another disease.

PROGRESS ON REASERCH

  • They have made a tremendous amount of progress on the
  • research toward the cure for the disease. They have
  • discoverd that there is a specific gene that causes the disorder.
  • They also discoverd that the trait is resesive and both parents need to be
  • carriers for the child to have the disease.

SYMTOMS

  • Salty tasting skin
  • Frequent coughing or wheezing
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Big appetite but no weight gain
  • Bulky, Smelly and bad bowell movements

BODY SYSTEMS AFFECTED

  • Respiratory system obliviously
  • Digestive system like prossesing food.
  • Reproductive systems witch is surprising.

HOW DO YOU GET IT

  • You inherit a mutated gene from both your mom and dad. That is why
  • not a lot of people have it. Both parents have to carry the gene therefore
  • it is resesive. It is sex linked because both parents mate and then the child gets the
  • gene if they both have it.

TREATMENT

  • You can treat the disease but you cannot cure it... yet. You can
  • treat it by antibiotics, mucus thinners, pancreatic enzymes, oxygen,
  • and surgery.

HOW IS IT DIAGNOSED

  • The parents or guardian normaly moti issei symptoms and notifies the
  • doctor. The doctor either takes blood and testes it for the disease or does
  • a sweat chloride test witch is where the doctor takes a sweat sample and then
  • measures the amount of chloride in it.
