WHAT IS CYSTIC FIBROSIS?
- Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disorder
- where you produce a thick sticky
- mucus that impedes digestion and
- resporation.
OCCURRENCE
- Most people who have Cystic
- Fibrosis have northern European
- descent. It is rare to find other
- ethnicities with this disorder.
PREVENTION
- Cystic Fibrosis has no prevention
- because it is a genetic disorder.
LIFE SPAN
- Due to recent improvements of
- treatment, patients with Cystic
- Fibrosis can live to 40 or 50
- years old.
TREATMENT
- Antibiotics to treat and prevent lung infections,
- mucus-thinning drugs, bronchodilators, enzymes
- to help absorb nutrients, and thumping of the
- chest to help dislodge mucus 1 to 4 times a day.
