WHAT IS IT?

  • Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder .
  • It affects the liver, lungs, pancreas and the instiene
  • It makes the body have thick sticky mucus

HOW IS IT PASSED DOWN?

  • To have CF a child must inherit one copy of the cf gene
  • From each parent

WHO DOES IT AFFECT?

  • CF affects 30,000 Americans
  • Have it.
  • It is found in children and young adults
  • It can be found both in men and women

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?

  • Frequent wheezing in the lungs
  • Pneumonia, a chronic cough with thick mucus
  • Poor growth
  • Salty tasting of skin

HOW CAN IT BE TREATED?

  • Inhaled medicine
  • Antibiotics
  • Take pancreatic Enzme supplements
  • In severe cases: lung transplant
  • The vibrating vest to help break the mucus in lungs
