• Life expectancy is only about 37 years

TREATMENT

• No cure but treatments available
• High-Frequency Chest Wall Oscillation

OCCURENCE

• Common within the white poplulation
• 1 in 2,500 to 3,500 white newborns
• 1 in 17,000 African Americans
• 1 in 31,000 Asian Americans

MUTATION

• Inherit two copies of defective CF gene
• Deletion of phenylaline
• More than 1,800 known mutations
