  • Land Area: 30,450 sq mi (116th)
  • Religion: 80% are claimed to be non-religious
  • Capital: Prauge
  • Language: Czech (but there are 15+ others acknowledged)

  • It is landlocked ~ water is 2% of their land area
  • The Czech Republic is divided up into 13 regions
  • They have made many great strides for science (contacts, blood types)

HISTORY

  • Czechoslovakia was founded in 1918 at the end of WWI
  • Fought hard to keep Germany put of their country -exiled the German minority
  • On January 1, 1993 Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia
  • Since then, the Czech Republic has been a liberal democracy

THE NATIVE CZECH LANGUAGE

  • 96% of the Czech population are fluent
  • Its spoken in 7 other European countries (outside of the CR)
  • The Us has the largest # of Czechs outside of the CR
  • It stems from ancient slovonic

ECONOMIC ISSUES

  • In the 2007-2010 time period ther was inflation and GDP decreasing
  • But in 2013-2014 the inflation was non-existant and the community on the rise
  • They have begun to rely less on brown coal in hopes to control pollution
  • Exports have been increased and imports are being closely monitored

Crimes

For the most part, the rates of crime are very low and the Czech Republic is a safe place to visit. The only true crime issues are the petty small crimes that revolve around tourism.
