WHERE IT STARTED.

  • It was originated in the Mediterranean.
  • Brought to China cultivation around 500 B.C.
  • China would use daikon for medicine and many of their meals.
  • The Chinese can also use it for tea to treat body pains.

WAYS TO EAT IT:

  • Steamed
  • Roasted
  • Boiled
  • Raw
  • Replace cabbage with daikon in coleslaw

Plant Structure:
The daikon is a vegetable which means it is a plant.
Usually grows from 5-18 to inches long.

GROWING CONDITIONS(1/2)

  • They need to be in mild climates in order to grow.
  • Plant them somewhere with exposure to the sun.
  • Plant in deep loose soil.
  • Plant in temperatures under 80 degrees fahrenheit.
  • Takes about 2-3 months to fully mature.

GROWING CONDITIONS(2/2)

  • For plant spacing: 4-6 in. apart.
  • For row spacing: 12-16 in. apart.
  • It is a good idea to plant it with other season crops such as:
  • Peppers and tomatoes
  • It is also great to plant them next to squash too.

Agriculture Practices
Most farmers don't use chemicals or pest control products on Daikon because it is known as a cover crop.
