SERFS

  • Serfs were people who were bound to the land and could never leave.
  • Serfs had to work the land
  • Serfs had to pay a tax to the lord with there own goods.

PEASANTS

  • Like serfs peasants jobs were to work the land.
  • Peasants could leave whenever they wanted.
  • Peasants normally stayed for protection during wars.

FIEFS

  • Fiefs were pieces of land that a lord could give to his vassals.
  • A fief came with a church, a manor house or a castle, farm land, and serfs.

LORDS

  • Lords were elected by the king.
  • The king would give them land to give to vassals.
  • The lord was a vassal to the king.
  • The lord were normally nobility, counts, or officials.

VASSALS

  • Vassals would get land from the lord
  • The vassal in trade for the land would offer protection.
  • Vassals would be obligated to raise an army for the lord.

MEDIEVAL CASTLES

  • Castles were normally on top of hills for protection.
  • They had a keep which was used for storage of food.
  • They had a chapel which was the place of holy religion.

LIFE OF THE NOBILITY

  • The job of a lord was to be the judge and jury to crimes.
  • He would also have to collect taxes.
  • The roles of a noblewoman would be to weave, sew and most importantly to make children.

THE STAGES OF A NIGHT

  • First there was a page who began to learn how to fight,use weapons, and ride a horse.
  • Next there was a squire who would be assigned a night. The squire would help the knight any way he could.
  • Finally there was the knight. A squire could become a night once he proved himself to his knight.

CODE OF CHIVALRY

  • All Knights had to act in a certain way.
  • They had to be brave in battle.
  • They had to fight fairly.
  • They had to keep promise.
  • They had to protect the church.
  • He had to treat the noblewomen with respect.
