DESCRIPTION
Dartmouth College was granted a charter by King George III in 1769.
Democratic New Hampshire wanted to change the original charter of Dartmouth.
Dartmouth hired one of their most notable alumnus, Daniel Webster, "Godlike Daniel"
"It is, sir, as i have said, a small college. And yet there are those who love it."
3.
DECISION AND REASONING
Marshall ruled original charter will stay
The Constitution restricted the states power
Best remembered of Marshall's decisions
4.
LONG RANGE SIGNIFICANCE
Corporations with charters will be protected
Webster was known as a Expounding Father of the Constitution
His Federalistic and nationalistic philosophy spread
5.
2) John Marshall served in the Virginia legislature when Virginia planters refused to pay their debts to English Merchants
This showed him that the states weren't strong enough to handle issues such as commerce on their own. They would need a strong central government.
