Data means different things when we are inside and outside of a coaching cycle.

Outside Coaching Cycles

• We use interim assessments, AP data, etc.
• Led by a school leader (supervisor of teachers)
• Purpose is to monitor student performance at a systems level

Inside Coaching Cycles

• We use formative assessments & student work
• Led by the coach
• Purpose is to monitor student growth in order to adjust instruction

How We Use Data Outside our Cycles

• Assessment walls
• Data teams
• PLCs
• Protocol-based discussions

How We Use Data Inside our Cycles

• Formative assessments
• Sorting sessions
• Collecting student evidence
• Conferring

The key is that we adjust to meet the students' needs.
