David C. McClelland was born on May 20, 1917 in Mt Vernan NY
He was awarded bachelor of arts at Wesleyan University an MA from the University of Missouri and PhD in experimental psychology from Yale University

Primary Contribution
In 1987, McClelland received the American Psychological Association Award for Distinguished Scientific Contributions.
He was credited with developing the Achievement Motivation Theory also known as achievement or non- achievement theory.

McClelland is most famously known and talked about with the achievement and motivation aspect
However, his work led more towards consciousness and personality

McClelland did his work at Connecticut College and Wesleyan University
In 1956 the psychologists went on to work at Harvard for decades

He used Freud, to discuss unconscious motivation, Russell A. Clark to understand how sexual motivation affects fantasy, and James Olds to study the physiology of reward as a motivational force.
He helped add to the ideas of Frederick Herzberg
