EARLY LIFE

• David Hilbert was a German mathematician
• He was born on the 23rd of January 1862 in the Province of Prussia
• One of the leading mathematicians of the 19th and early 20th century
• Founder of proof theory and mathematical logic
• Hilbert was baptized and raised in the Reformed Protestant Church

HIS DEATH

• He later on left the Church and became an agnostic
• Argued mathematical truth was independent of the existence of God
• News of his death only became known to the wider world six months after he had died
